The smelting cycle of ordinary AC arc furnace is about 2~4 hours, depending on the capacity of electric furnace, power supply and smelting process. How many degrees of electricity a ton of steel needs depends on the type of arc furnace, smelting process, heat preservation time, etc., and the electricity consumption per ton of steel is about 500~800 degrees electricity.
The current control of the arc furnace is accomplished by the switching of the arc furnace transformer connector and the lifting of the electrode. Furnace transformers with a capacity of less than 10MVA are sometimes equipped with series reactors on their high voltage sides to reduce short circuit current and stabilize the arc. For larger capacity electric furnace transformer, its own leakage resistance has been large enough, do not need to series reactor.
