There are three main forms of graphite electrode machining: pressure vibration method, numerical control automatic forming method and mechanical processing method.
1. Pressure vibration method: The pressure vibration method requires a special machine tool, and the shape of the electrode mother mold is opposite to that of the electrode. Graphite materials and forming tools are placed relative to each other during processing, leaving a certain gap. It is injected with a processing fluid mixed with water and abrasive. Ultrasonic vibration of the graphite and the forming tool is made while passing through the processing fluid. Under the impact of the abrasive, the graphite is peeled away to form the desired shape. Abrasive is SiC, B4C or diamond, the rougher the abrasive, the faster the processing speed. The machine adopts sealed type and water curtain to process when working. Suitable for mass production of edM machining.
2. NUMERICAL control automatic forming method: The numerical control automatic forming method requires a special graphite electrode forming machine. It adopts the numerical control method and has a tool automatic exchange device, which can accommodate more tools. In order to improve the processing environment, the graphite electrode is surrounded by water curtain to prevent the dispersion of graphite dust. Wet machining can also be used to prevent tool wear and graphite dust dispersal by water-soluble cutting fluid. The machine has a high performance filter device, which can separate the cutting fluid and graphite chips, and ensure a long time continuous processing. But its price is high, in the domestic application is not universal.
